The Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal is very proud to announce that Professor Christopher E. Rudd, PhD, a researcher at the Centre de recherche de l’Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (CR-HMR), has received a prestigious appointment as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. This major honour is bestowed on Canadians who have made exceptional contributions through their scientific publications, scholarship or creative activities or through original contributions in the arts, the humanities, science, or public life.

This appointment as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada for Professor Rudd, who is also a faculty member of the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal, is a testament to his outstanding contribution to science. A leading researcher and immunologist of international renown, Professor Rudd directs the Cell Signalling in Immunotherapy Research Unit and serves as chief of the Immunology-Oncology Axis at the CR-HMR. His research projects aim to better understand the immune system, such as the signalling mechanisms controlling T cell immune function, and how the immune system can be used to fight cancer and infection. He has won many international awards and his work has laid the foundation for current immune-based cancer therapies, including chimeric antigen receptor therapy (CAR-T).

“I want to congratulate Professor Christopher E. Rudd on being named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. This recognition highlights his great contribution to scientific advancement in Canada, particularly through the development of new therapeutic avenues to treat cancer and infectious diseases,” said Mr. Sylvain Lemieux, President and CEO of the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. “This distinction also demonstrates the vitality and leadership shown by researchers at the Centre de recherche de l’Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont,” said Professor Sylvie Lesage, PhD, Scientific Director of the CR-HMR. “The entire team at our research centre joins me in congratulating him on this prestigious honour,” she added.
