Cancer survival rates are improving

Jean-Sébastien Delisle

For the report “Canadian Cancer Statistics 2019” released on September 4, Dr. Jean-Sébastien Delisle, a hematologist and researcher at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, served as a media expert for the Canadian Cancer Society (CSC). He gave several interviews with his patient Mai Duong to comment on this report developed by the CSC, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Statistics Canada. These new cancer statistics show that survival rates for blood cancers have significantly increased over the past 20 years largely due to advances in research and precision medicine.

“I am very proud to acknowledge Dr. Delisle’s work with the Canadian Cancer Society,” said Sylvain Lemieux, President and CEO of the CIUSSS de l'Est-de-l'Île-de-Montréal. “Thanks to the contributions of Dr. Delisle, his fellow doctors and researchers, and our teams who provide care every day, we can help patients with blood cancer live longer and in better conditions,” said Mr. Lemieux
