Son domaine de recherche est centré sur l’épidémiologie, le diagnostic et le traitement des infections associées au cancer et à la transplantation, en particulier les infections fongiques invasives. Ses activités de recherche incluent un volet de laboratoire et un volet clinique/épidémiologique. Docteur Dufresne s’intéresse au développement et à l’optimisation du diagnostic des infections fongiques. Il étudie également l’incidence et les facteurs de risque de plusieurs infections opportunistes, dont l’aspergillose invasive et la candidose invasive. De plus, il participe à des essais cliniques évaluant de nouveaux agents antimicrobiens pour la prévention et le traitement des infections opportunistes.
