Le Dr Vavassis est radio-oncologue spécialisé en cancer de la prostate, du sein et digestif. Il a un intérêt pour la radiochirurgie, l’hypofractionnement et les radio-sensibilisateurs. Excellent communicateur, il a effectué des présentations en tant que professeur invité à plus de 30 évènements au niveau provincial et national.

La relation patient-médecin est fondamentale pour lui. Le Dr Vavassis est cofondateur de CROIRE, une organisation dédiée à l’amélioration de la qualité des soins aux patients atteints du cancer. Il s’est également allié à PROCURE pour soutenir les patients atteints du cancer de la prostate.

La majorité de ses études se concentrent sur le cancer de la prostate et les métastases. En plus d’être l’investigateur principal de 12 études, le Dr Vavassis est directeur de l’unité de recherche du Département de radio-oncologie du CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. Il dirige une équipe de 15 médecins et deux infirmières afin de coordonner des études au niveau local ainsi qu’en collaboration provinciale, nationale et internationale.
